During the forties and the fifties Stockholm shifted continuously from carbon fired heating of houses to oil fired heating. The sulphur content in the oil was high, around 3 percent. In the sixties the houses were heated individually. Some smaller areas in the west and north-east of the city were heated in districts with energy from oil fired plants.
